Design has seen been the witness of evolution. Design is what made the humans survive. This is a bold statement to make I understand. But hear me out, how did all the inventions occur? When there was a problem, the solution was to design something to fix the problem at hand. The most famous example is the wheel. Designing was the solution to a huge problem of that time.

Think of a water bottle, someone once thought of storing water in a portable manner, they designed something, someone else improvised. Someone thought of putting a stopper, so the water stays intact, then hundreds of re-designing variations later you now behold the bottle that has gone through a design evolution. Similarly everything that’s tangible has been born through designing.

A little problem occurs and an intelligent person will design its solution. Creativity is intelligence having fun, is quite accurate as said by Albert Einstein.

Thus design is the foundation the society has built upon.

So, I now ask you the question at hand. Why Design? Why can’t your brand run without proper structure? The answer is that without a proper structure you’ll be going nowhere. Thus design is needed. Take a company’s logo for instance.

Your logo is the symbol of your company. It talks about the ‘what’ of your firm. To explain it better, you are the face of your firm, and thus your logo is the symbol of your firm, it’s a visual. Humans remember what they see, better. Logo is like a metaphor of your firm, it describes what your firm does. When a person tries to remember something they immediately go to the visual memory, and thus design plays a significant role in making your brand’s presence known.

Let’s ponder over this question in a new way. Why Design? Designing is the rendering of intent, it’s not just about making things pretty, it’s like the emotion of things. Design is a plan for arranging elements in such a way as best to accomplish a particular purpose.

Meanwhile, the meaning of design depends on the context and can also mean a variety of other things. Design is the creation of an experience. It’s also the process of the said creation and how well it’s organized. On top of that, design is the result, i.e. the things we see, hear, and feel.
The meaning of design is so multifaceted, to the point that you can no longer say if a universal definition is at all possible. You can, however, try to look at the sum of the parts to come up with a more realistic picture.

Design is improvisation, it’s basically evolution in the world.

With design you can achieve the unachievable and be witness to your brands growth, that becomes a household name. That’s what maggi, colgate, Xerox, Google brands had envisioned and achieved for themselves something that’s beyond the balance sheet. That’s the power of Design.

Every firm has three questions to sort out, the What, the Why and the How. Design is the part and parcel of these 3 in one way or another.

So now when someone asks the question Why Design? Say why not?
